I lay no claim to pastoral calling neither do I pretend to be a man of the pulpit, however the inspiration for this piece came from two source, one from the parable of sower in the 13th chapter of Matthew and the other as I sat in an interview and listened to the presentation of a young guy pitching for a role in and business development where a friend of mine works. Success has been defined by many people using different parameters as a yardstick, but whatever one learns or about the subject, if the basic are not covered, it success might just be a fluke, in the short term.
Verse 5 of the chapter talks about seed which feel on stony places , where they had not much earth … I have read and listened to sermons about this passage over the years but the full realization hit me as I related it to the success journey. No one expected the seeds to germinate on stony places. So most times we gloss over the importance of not having much earth, but the fact remains that the seed sprang up but they had no deepness on earth. This is what John. C . Maxwell calls the roadmap to success. It is the realization of the needs to set career goals and priorities, to have plans written out and most importantly to add value to oneself on daily basis. From time to time, one comes across individuals who have no value to offer but expect to get gross value out of life however it takes but a little while for the scorching of sun to set in.
Let me run some statistics for you , the mammoth was a huge animal that would normally weigh 6-8tons and exceptional big ones 12tons. They dominated their environment like the colossus that they were but however the animal called mammoth are extinct today. In contrast consider the smallest of all insects. The Ants by any stretch of imagination , it cannot be seen to have the capacity to sustain itself however , generation after generation , the ants has found ways and means of reinventing itself and surviving the hazard of nature. Either through individual efforts of survival or through teamwork within the colony the ant continues to daily add values to itself for perpetual survival.
The values we add to ourselves on a daily , weekly , monthly and yearly basis will ensure that we take root deeply in the earth. Success is not about blossoming for a season without deepness of earth, it is about a solid foundation on which we build by adding and giving values over and over again.
So I pose a question again , what will you rather be? The mammoth or the ant.? You choose. Be in the Gap.
